A total of 3,394 Secondary Six (S6) places in public sector schools are still available for Secondary Five (S5) graduates to apply in Stage IV of the S6 Admission Procedure tomorrow (August 10).
On completion of Stage III today, 22,241 students were successful in acquiring S6 places.
Students with Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination results satisfying the minimum A-Level entry requirements can apply to other schools in Stage IV to be held from 9am to 4.30pm tomorrow.
Meanwhile, the Joint Admission Centre for schools in the Islands district will operate in Stage IV. The centre is situated at PLK Mrs Ma Kam Ming-Cheung Fook Sien College, Fu Tung Estate, Tung Chung, Lantau Island.
To facilitate students to apply to other schools at Stages II and IV, S6 vacancy information will be released through the Education Bureau's S6 Admission Procedure webpage, http://www.edb.gov.hk/s6ap and by the Interactive Voice Response (IVR) telephone hotline system at 3560 6888 (which requires students to input school codes). For school codes, please refer to the S6 Admission Procedure webpage and from the Careers Guidance Handbook for S5 Graduates.
Students may also make use of the computers for public use at public libraries, District Offices, community centres and community halls to access vacancy information on the Internet.
For enquiries about the S6 Admission Procedure, students can call the bureau's central hotline (Tel: 3112 3334). They are also welcome to contact the bureau's Regional Education Offices for assistance.
Besides S6 school places, students can choose from a variety of sub-degree programmes to meet their needs. For course details, they can refer to the Information Portal for Accredited Self-financing Sub-degree Programmes at http://www.ipass.gov.hk or the websites of individual tertiary education institutions for publicly-funded programmes.
As for Project Yi Jin, the Federation for Continuing Education in Tertiary Institutions (FCE) will hold an exhibition and joint registration for full-time programmes at the Hong Kong International Trade and Exhibition Centre at Kowloon Bay on Saturday and Sunday (August 11 and 12) and handle applications. Students who have successfully completed the programmes will be awarded a full certificate that is comparable to five passes in HKCEE, with which they can further their studies by taking courses run by not only the FCE's member institutions but also other institutions; or seek employment, including applying for civil service posts.
In addition, the bureau has arranged an approved course operator to run evening senior secondary courses in designated government school premises. Students meeting relevant requirements will be eligible for a reimbursement of 30% or 100% of the course fee. For application details, please call the Hong Kong College of Technology at 2192 8118.
