Employer ordered to pay MPF non-payment

The following is issued on behalf of MPFA:
The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (August 8) pursued a claim in the Small Claims Tribunal for some $18,000 on behalf of an employee, who was owed MPF contributions.
At the tribunal¡¦s hearing, Yue Fung Godown Limited, did not appear. In its absence, the Adjudicator ordered it to pay the MPFA $18,680.82, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.
The amount awarded will be reimbursed to the employee¡¦s MPF account as soon as it is received by the MPFA. The tribunal further ordered defendant to pay $120 as the cost in respect of the claim.
