The Secretary for Security, Mr Ambrose S K Lee, today (August 7) encouraged young people to lead a meaningful and healthy life by staying away from drugs.
His words of encouragement came at a meeting with a group of rehabilitated young drug abusers during a visit to the Jockey Club Wah Ming Lutheran Integrated Service Centre in North District.
Accompanied by North District Officer, Mr Johann Wong, Mr Lee watched band performances and cooking demonstrations by the young people. Mr Lee urged them to participate in activities organised by the centre to develop their interests and to stand firm against the temptation of drugs.
The centre provides various services for young people including social skill training, volunteer work, personal counselling, job training, school social work and outreaching social work services. It also runs some interest groups for ex-drug abusers.
Mr Lee then visited the Pizza Box in Sheung Shui Sunningdale Garden. He was briefed by the Vice-Chairlady of Hong Kong Women Development Association, Ms Wong Loi-tai, on the operation of the Pizza Box, which is a social enterprise launched under the "Enhancing Self-Reliance through District Partnership Programme" of the Home Affairs Department. The Pizza Box provides delivery and take-away pizza.
Mr Lee was pleased to learn that this social enterprise had provided job opportunities for the unemployed in the local community.
Mr Lee ended his visit by meeting the Chairman of the North District Council, Mr Au Tin-sang; the Vice-Chairman, Mr Chow Kam-siu, and chairmen of the council committees to listen to their views on local issues.
