The Secretary for Transport and Housing, Ms Eva Cheng, today (August 6) visited Lok Ma Chau (LMC) Spur Line to look at the final preparation for the commissioning of the rail service and the Control Point. The Spur Line is set to open on August 15.
Accompanied by the Chief Executive Officer of Kowloon-Canton Railway Corporation, Mr James Blake, the Secretary took a trial-run train from Fo Tan Station to LMC Station. On arrival, Ms Cheng toured the arrival and departure halls where immigration and customs facilities and shopping areas are all ready for the opening of the Spur Line.
The Secretary also toured the passenger link bridge across the Shenzhen River that connects LMC Control Point with Futian Port. She then visited the Public Transport Interchange at the Control Point where different kinds of public transport services will be available for passengers.
"The opening of the Spur Line provides more choices to cross-boundary passengers and facilitates cross-boundary people flow. Better connectivity between Hong Kong and Shenzhen will benefit the economic development of both sides," Ms Cheng said.
The Spur Line, the second cross-boundary railway between Hong Kong and Guangdong, will help ease the congestion at Lo Wu Control Point and meet the demand of the rapidly growing cross-boundary passenger traffic.
