A concert held at Stanley Prison today (August 5) had sent inmates the care, concern and encouragement from the community, the Commissioner of Correctional Services, Mr Kwok Leung-ming said.
The concert, co-organised by Correctional Services Department (CSD), Buddha's Light International Association of Hong Kong Ltd and Liu Shih Kun Piano and Arts Centre, is the first of its kind held in SP, a maximum security institution.
Speaking at the concert, Mr Kwok said the concert could also appeal for public acceptance of and support for serving and rehabilitated offenders.
Mr Kwok hoped that the department would continue to have chances to work with the community in providing quality rehabilitation services and creating a harmonious society.
The concert was conducted in two identical sessions, each lasted for about an hour. Artists performing at the concert included renowned pianist Mr Liu Shih Kun, pianist and pipa player Miss Samantha Sun and guzheng player Miss Connie Ng.
Inmates of Stanley Prison (SP) enjoyed the performances either on-the-spot today or via the television. The concert was recorded and shown to inmates of the nearby Pak Sha Wan Correctional Institution and Tung Tau Correctional Institutions immediately in the same afternoon. It would also be shown to inmates in all other penal institutions afterward so that they would have an opportunity to appreciate the support, concern and encouragement from the community through the performance of the renowned musicians.
