Prospective applicants for civil service posts at degree or professional level can apply from tomorrow (August 4) to sit for the Common Recruitment Examination (CRE) on October 6 in Hong Kong.
The examination will also be held in six overseas cities on November 24 to facilitate the taking of the examination by those studying or living overseas.
A spokesman for the Civil Service Bureau (CSB) said valid CRE results were required of applicants for civil service posts at degree or professional level. "People interested in applying for civil service posts at degree or professional level in the near future may wish to consider sitting for the coming CRE, so as to be eligible to apply for these civil service openings that might be available before another CRE is held."
"For the coming CRE, holders of degree or professional qualifications, or university students who will have attained a degree in the 2007-08 academic year may also apply," the spokesman said.
The examination consists of three one-hour papers - Use of English (UE), Use of Chinese (UC) and Aptitude Test (AT), in multiple-choice format. Applicants for civil service posts at degree or professional level are required to obtain 'Level 2' or 'Level 1' results in the two language papers in the CRE as prescribed in the entry requirements set for the relevant posts in different civil service grades. Applicants for some of these posts are also required to pass the AT paper.
The CRE is held independent of the recruitment process for any civil service post. Persons who wish to apply for civil service vacancies should apply to the recruiting grades/departments direct.
People interested in taking the coming CRE may apply from tomorrow through the on-line facilities on the Civil Service Bureau homepage at www.csb.gov.hk, or using the CRE application form (CSB31 (7/2007)) which can be downloaded from the bureau homepage or obtained from any of the Public Enquiry Service Centres of District Offices or Job Centres of Labour Department. Applications must be made before 5pm on August 17 (Hong Kong Time).
For more details on the coming CRE, please visit the bureau homepage. Enquiries may be made to the Civil Service Examinations Unit by phone at 2537 6429 or by e-mail to csbcseu@csb.gov.hk.
