Presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, Ho Ho Chuen Dance Organisations will perform the original works of the troupe at the dance gala "As Time Goes By ..." next month (September).
It includes "Genesis", "Sparks", "Homeland" (mini dance drama), "The Thais", "The Floating People", "Dagger Society", etc, each of which showcases many of the works originated by Ho Ho Chuen, artistic director of the troupe, for more than 20 years.
"When I was young, China was in her days of 'model plays'. We performed 'model plays', danced 'resistance dances', and sang 'evil-fighting songs'," Ho said.
"I moved to Hong Kong 25 years ago, a land of artistic freedom. I spent 10 years adapting to the new environment. It was a painful, self-conscious, skinning process. As I had looked back at my original repertoire of close to 200 works, I discarded a lot of what I would call 'junk'. But fortunately, some of the worthy works remained. I am therefore putting them into a collection of dance works for this show."
Ho Ho Chuen Dance School and Ho Ho Chuen Dance Organisations were formed by Ho Ho-chuen in 1985 and 1991 respectively, with Ho himself as Director of the School and Artistic Director of the Organisations. The dance school emphasises dance education and the promotion of the genre. Over the decades, it has groomed more than 1,000 talents in dance. Some of them have become professionals in dance and are active on the stage or in films and television, while others have become dance teachers and choreographers at schools or community organisations.
"As Time Goes By..." will be staged at 7.30pm on September 8 (Saturday) and 3pm on September 9 (Sunday) at the Auditorium, Kwai Tsing Theatre. Tickets priced at $150, $120 and $90 are now available at all URBTIX outlets. Half-price concessions will be granted to senior citizens, people with disabilities, full-time students and Comprehensive Social Security Assistance recipients. (Limited tickets for Comprehensive Social Security Assistance recipients are available on a first-come, first-served basis.)
