Recruitment arrangement for Government Counsel applicants
*********************************************************

The Department of Justice will conduct a recruitment exercise in September-October for Government Counsel (GC).

"Similar to the recruitment exercise in 2006, all GC applicants will need to obtain a 'Level 2' result in the Use of English (UE) paper and a 'Level 1' result in the Use of Chinese (UC) paper in the Common Recruitment Examination (CRE)," a spokesman for the department said.

The spokesman said grade 'C' or above in Use of English of the Hong Kong Advanced Level Examination (HKALE) would be accepted as equivalent to 'Level 2' in the UE paper of the CRE; whereas grade 'D' or above in Chinese Language and Culture or Chinese Language and Literature of the HKALE would be accepted as equivalent to 'Level 1' in the UC paper of the CRE.

The next CRE is scheduled to be held on October 6.  Candidates without the requisite results in CRE, or equivalent, must make a separate application between August 4 and 17 to sit the CRE before they apply for the GC post in September-October.

The spokesman reminded candidates interested in applying for the GC post to apply for the coming CRE this month (August).
