Appointments to Advisory Committee of Cantonese Opera Development Fund

    The Government today (August 1) announced appointments to the Advisory Committee of the Cantonese Opera Development Fund for the period from August 1, 2007 to July 31, 2009.

     The Cantonese Opera Development Fund, officially launched on November 27, 2005, is aimed at raising and applying fund to support researches, studies, projects and activities to promote and sustain the development of Cantonese opera. The Cantonese Opera Development Fund complements the work of the Cantonese Opera Advisory Committee (COAC), an advisory body appointed by the Secretary for Home Affairs, by supporting projects initiated by the COAC.

     The fund was set up in accordance with the Secretary for Home Affairs Incorporation Ordinance (Chapter 1044). The Secretary for Home Affairs as the Trustee of Fund and Chairman of the Advisory Committee has reappointed eight members and appointed two new members to form the coming term of the Advisory Committee starting today. The advisory committee advises the Secretary for Home Affairs on matters relating to the administration and management of the fund, such as encouraging the community to support the fund, monitoring the operation of the fund and reviewing the effectiveness of funded projects.
