Manager fined for breaching MPFS Ordinance

    A manager was fined $12,000 at the Kwun Tong Magistracy today (July 27), for offences under the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Ordinance.

     Wong Wai Kwok, manager of Look-In Construction Engineering Company Limited, was charged with offences under section 7A(8) and section 44 of the ordinance. The defendant pleaded guilty to six counts of failing to make MPF contributions for an employee within the prescribed time for the contribution periods between April and September, 2004. The defendant was fined $2,000 for each summons, totalling $12,000.

     Meanwhile, the MPFA obtained an order in the District Court against an employer for payment of outstanding MPF contributions at about $110,000.

     The District Court issued a judgment against  Wong Man Keung trading as Jetwell Engineering Company. The defendant was ordered to pay the MPFA $113,409.02, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable to an employee of the defendant.

     The amount awarded at the District Court will be reimbursed to the employee's MPF account as soon as it is received by the MPFA. The court further ordered the defendant to pay cost of $930 for the case.
