Since the issue of the 2006 Final Registers, the Registration and Electoral Office (REO) has processed more than 450,000 cases of new voter registration and updating of particulars of registered electors. Among them, 224,000 cases were received during a six-week voter registration campaign that ended on July 16.
"For the 450,000 cases processed, over 140,000 are applications for new registration as electors, and about 310,000 are updates of registration particulars," a spokesman for the REO said.
While the deadline for new registration has passed, registered electors have until August 29 to report to the REO any change in address or other registration particulars.
The provisional register, which will show the total number of registered electors taking into account the number of new registrations as well as deletions of electors who had passed away or had not reported their latest residential addresses to the REO, will be compiled and published not later than August 15 for public inspection up to 29 August. The final register will be published in late September, to tie in with the District Council election on November 18.
