The Information Expo for Secondary School Leavers 2007 on Saturday and Sunday (July 28 and 29) at Olympian City 2 will provide secondary school leavers with the latest information on further studies and employment opportunities to help them plan for their future.
The Info Expo is organised by the Education Bureau and co-organised with the Hong Kong Association of Careers Masters and Guidance Masters and the Hong Kong Education City.
About 18 local institutions will provide information on accredited self-financing degree and sub-degree programmes to students who wish to continue their studies.
Experienced speakers will give tips to students who wish to continue their studies or enter the employment market.
The bureau will introduce the Qualifications Register prototype to expo visitors. The register is a centralised online database on whole or modular qualifications, learning programmes and providers. The register provides searchable online information for free reference. Only quality-assured qualifications will be put onto the register. As such, aspiring learners can make informed choices about learning programmes.
Secondary 5 school leavers and adult learners can learn more updates about an alternative route to continuing education ¡V Project Yi Jin ¡V which emphasises practical skills training.
School leavers who are prepared to enter the employment market can apply for the Labour Department's Youth Pre-employment Training Programmme and Youth Work Experience and Training Scheme. The two programmes provide free pre-employment and on-the-job training to young people and aim to enrich their job skills, work experience and credentials, thereby enhancing their employability and competitiveness.
The Principal Assistant Secretary for Education (Further Education), Mr Daniel Cheng Chung-wai, will officiate at the opening ceremony of the Info Expo at 11am on Saturday. The Info Expo will be held from 10am to 7pm on Saturday and Sunday at Central Atrium, Ground Floor, Olympian City 2. Admission is free.
