The following is issued on behalf of the Electoral Affairs Commission:
The Electoral Affairs Commission will hold a public forum on Thursday (July 26) to hear people's views on its provisional recommendations on the delineation of geographical constituencies for the 2008 Legislative Council Election.
The forum will start at 2.30pm at the commission's conference room, 10/F Harbour Centre, 25 Harbour Road, Wan Chai. People with supporting or different views are all welcome to attend.
The commission has recommended maintaining the boundaries and names of the existing five geographical constituencies, and proposed to allocate six seats for Hong Kong Island, five for Kowloon West, four for Kowloon East, eight for New Territories West and seven for New Territories East in accordance with the population distribution.
The commission's provisional recommendations fully comply with the statutory criteria laid down in the Legislative Council Ordinance and the Electoral Affairs Commission Ordinance for the delineation of geographical constituencies in respect of the Legislative Council Election.
Consultation on the provisional recommendations will end on August 3.
