The HKSAR 10th Anniversary - Trivia Question Contest in San Francisco received overwhelming responses and the lucky Grand Prize winner is Mr. Tom Chan from the Bay Area.
Ms Doris Cheung, Director of the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in San Francisco congratulated Mr. Chan who won two round-trip tickets from San Francisco to Hong Kong on Cathay Pacific Airways and three nights' accommodation in Hong Kong, courtesy of the Hong Kong Tourism Board.
The Contest, organized by the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in San Francisco was timely run in the month of June to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region through partnering with KRON 4, a local mainstream television station and Ming Pao Daily. A wide spectrum of topics about Hong Kong, from "One Country, Two Systems" to the rule of law and Hong Kong's position as an international centre for finance, trade, logistics and tourism; from Hong Kong's hi-tech development to Hong Kong's film industry and tourism were covered in the four-week promotion in June. "I am delighted that through this contest, people in the Bay Area have learned more about Hong Kongˇ¦s latest developments," said Ms Cheung at the prize presentation ceremony held at the Office today (July 20, San Francisco time).
"Hong Kong weathered many challenges in the past ten years and witnessed the successful implementation of the novel idea of 'One Country, Two Systems'. With Hong Kong people's 'can-do' spirit and entrepreneurship, our economy is thriving and our city is vibrant. Ten years after the handover, Hong Kong continues to attract the best and the brightest from all over the world," Ms Cheung continued.
About 900 entries were received in the four-week promotion. Each week one winner was selected at random from all eligible entries to receive the Weekly Prize of a limited edition Hong Kong bus model. One Grand Prize winner was selected at random at the end of the promotion.
Grand prize winner Tom Chan said it was really a pleasant surprise to be the lucky winner. "I almost forget about the entry which was submitted in early June through KRON 4's website. Winning this grand prize is special to me. Although I was born in Hong Kong, I left the city when I was seven and was brought up in the United States. The first time I visited Hong Kong was 1997, when we had our honeymoon. We are looking forward to having the opportunity to visit this dynamic city again after ten years," said Tom Chan.
The Weekly Prize winners are Tze Ho Lui, Maggie So, Thelma Lai-Chang and Kelly Mak.
The Trivia Question Contest is one of a series of activities organized by the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in San Francisco in celebration of the 10th anniversary of the HKSAR. Upcoming events spanning till November include a "Hong Kong Spirit" brochure design competition, performance by the Hong Kong City Contemporary Dance Company and Hong Kong Children's Symphony Orchestra, as well as a large-scale business conference. In addition, a four-part program commissioned by the Office about different aspects of life in Hong Kong will be aired on TV in the San Francisco Bay Area in September.
