Local groups and vocalists to perform oratorios and sacred music
***********************************************************

Hong Kong Oratorio Society will join Hong Kong Strings and vocalists Jimmy Chan (bass) and Cynthia Luff (mezzo-soprano), under the baton of Dr Allison So, to give a concert of oratorios and sacred music next month.

Featuring selections from Haydn's "The Creation"; Handel's "Israel in Egypt"; "Judas Maccabaeus" and "Messiah"; Mendelssohn's " Elijah"; Mozart, Elgar, Perosi's "Ave Verum" and Ingegneri's "O bone Jesu", the concert will be at 8pm on Saturday, August 11, at the Auditorium, Tsuen Wan Town Hall.

One of the longest established, largest, and most active choirs in Hong Kong, Hong Kong Oratorio Society has, over the past 50 years, given more than 300 concerts and 100 oratorios and major choral works by classical and contemporary composers. The choir has also commissioned four choral works and released four CD recordings. Their performance had been highly acclaimed as "mature and full voices with proper balance and projection, moving along the melodic lines with the required colours and tones..."

Founded in 1998, Hong Kong Strings comprises more than 20 local young string musicians, mainly graduates of the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts and local or overseas music institutions. The group is dedicated to promoting music to the public through demonstration concerts.

"An Evening of Sacred Music and Oratorios" is presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department.
