The Food and Environmental Hygiene Department has streamlined application procedures concerning the scattering of cremated human ashes at three designated areas within Hong Kong waters.
"Given the persistent shortage of niches, scattering of cremated human ashes at sea provides another option for ash disposal," a department spokesman said today (July 10).
For an application which complies with the conditions for scattering of cremated human ashes within the three designated areas - East of Tap Mun, East of Tung Lung Chau and South of West Lamma Channel - approval will normally be granted within five working days from the date of receipt of application. No fee will be charged for applications.
