Tung Wah Group of Hospitals Fung Yiu King Hospital spokesperson announced today (July 9) that since 26 June 2007, six patients (aged from 84 to 94) and one staff have presented with symptoms of fever and influenza like illness.
Two of the patients died yesterday (July 8) due to their own serious illness. The remaining patients are being treated under isolation and their condition is stable.
Viral test results of the patients are positive for Influenza A. The staff concerned has recovered.
All other patients in the ward concerned are under close surveillance. Admission and visiting to the ward have been suspended. Infection control measures have already been reinforced. Thorough cleansing and disinfection have been carried out in the ward.
The cases have been reported to the Hospital Authority and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow up.
