Four employers ordered to pay MPF non-payment

    The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (July 4) pursued four claims in the Small Claims Tribunal for some $85,000 on behalf of 10 employees, who were owed MPF contributions by their employers.

     At the tribunal's hearing, Chan Chi Ming trading as and Ho Kai and Siu King Chiu formerly trading as Yeung Shing Restaurant, did not dispute the amount claimed. The Adjudicator ordered it to pay the MPFA $15,245.64, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

     The other three defendants, Gaintek Engineering Company Limited, Wong Oi Wa formerly trading as Ho King Restaurant and Kut Chiap Limited, did not appear. In their absence, the Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA $43,094.60, $27,168.75 and $217.74, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

     The amounts awarded will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The tribunal further awarded $200, $150, $160 and $56 as the costs in respect of the claims.
