************************************************************

The 10th anniversary major celebration event "Harbour Extravaganza", featuring "A Symphony of Lights" with rooftop pyrotechnics at 8pm followed by a grand fireworks display, will light up the sky over Victoria Harbour on Sunday (July 1).

The event is sponsored by Hong Kong Celebrations Preparatory Association, Shimao Property Holdings Limited, The Global Foundation of Distinguished Chinese Limited, Federation of Hong Kong Guangdong Community Organisations Limited and Emperor Group. Sponsorship amount is $16 million.

Co-ordinated by the Home Affairs Bureau and Economic Development and Labour Bureau, it is one of the major celebration events to mark the 10th Anniversary of the Establishment of the HKSAR.

"Harbour Extravaganza" will start with the 13-minute "A Symphony of Lights", the world's largest permanent light and sound show. The show will be enhanced by rooftop pyrotechnic displays on both sides of Victoria Harbour. Immediately following "A Symphony of Lights" will be the mega fireworks display, a 23-minute extravaganza consisting of 10 scenes. A total of 31,888 pieces of firing shells will be discharged from four barges.

Among these scenes, the second scene displaying the Chinese characters "Zhong Quo Ren" -- meaning "Chinese people" is one of the highlights, while the ninth scene with the 10th anniversary theme song as background music, projecting the Chinese character "10" adds joy to the celebration. The fireworks reach a climax at the last scene with fast and rhythmic display to create a stunning impact.

"Harbour Extravaganza" can be seen from many vantage points on both sides of the harbour, including Tsim Sha Tsui, Mid-levels, Central District, Wan Chai, Causeway Bay and Hung Hom Bypass.

To enhance enjoyment of "Harbour Extravaganza", spectators are recommended to tune to Radio Television Hong Kong Radio Four (FM 97.6 - 98.9) for synchronised soundtrack.

"A Symphony of Lights" enhanced with rooftop pyrotechnic displays will also be staged from July 2 to July 8 as the celebration continues.

The Leisure and Cultural Services Department appealed to people to keep places clean and tidy when viewing "Harbour Extravaganza" on Sunday. To maintain the cleanliness and safety in LCSD venues including the Hong Kong Cultural Centre, Tsim Sha Tsui Promenade, Avenue of Stars and UC Centenary Garden where large crowds are expected, the LCSD will strengthen patrols in the Tsim Sha Tsui area and take action against littering, illegal hawking and vandalism of public property with law enforcement teams of the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department and the Police.
