President Hu Jintao arrived in Hong Kong this morning (June 29) for a three-day visit, during which he will attend activities to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the HKSAR.
President Hu was greeted at the airport by the Chief Executive, Mr Donald Tsang, and Mrs Tsang. Against the background of a welcoming tune played by the HK Police band, two young children presented bouquets of flowers to President Hu and his wife, Ms Liu Yongqing.
The welcoming party from the HKSAR Government included the Chief Justice, Mr Andrew Li; Chief Secretary for Administration Mr Rafael Hui; Financial Secretary Mr Henry Tang; Secretary for Justice, Mr Wong Yan Lung, SC; President of the Legislative Council Mrs Rita Fan and Convenor of the Executive Council Mr Leung Chun-ying.
Also at the airport to give a warm welcome to President Hu were some 150 students from HKFEW Wong Cho Bau School.
President Hu told reporters waiting at the airport that the 10th anniversary of Hong Kongˇ¦s reunification with the motherland was a joyous occasion for Hong Kong as well as for the nation. In the past 10 years, the principles of ˇ§One Country, Two Systemsˇ¨ and ˇ§Hong Kong people running Hong Kongˇ¨ and a high degree of autonomy had been thoroughly implemented in Hong Kong.
With the support of the Central Government and the Chinese people, the HKSAR Government had united various sectors of Hong Kong people to overcome all sorts of difficulties and risks. Hong Kongˇ¦s development had been a proud achievement, and it had gained valuable experiences to make the administration of Hong Kong under ˇ§One Country, Two Systemsˇ¨ a success, President Hu said.
The President also thanked the reporters for their hard work in covering his activities.
