The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (June 28) pursued four claims in the Small Claims Tribunal for some $80,000 on behalf of 14 employees, who were owed MPF contributions by their employers.
At the hearing, the defendant, Kenfame Industries Limited, did not dispute the amount claimed. The Adjudicator ordered it to pay the MPFA $39,847.50, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.
The Adjudicator also ordered Kenfame Industries Limited to pay the MPFA $5,000 being financial penalty imposed by the MPFA for failure to make MPF contributions for employees.
The other three defendants, SK Engineering Limited, Gaintek Engineering Company Limited and Ng Yun Kam trading as Shing Tat Eng CO, did not appear. In their absence, the Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA $24,667.50, $9,741.60 and $6,843.24 being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.
The amounts awarded will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The tribunal further ordered defendants to pay $276, $110, $99 and $150 respectively as the costs in respect of the claims.
