Feng Chengsu's "Copy after Preface to the Orchid Pavilion Gathering" of the Tang dynasty, one of the major exhibits featured in the first phase of the exhibition. Wang Xizhi's "Preface to the Orchid Pavilion Gathering" has been unrivalled in the history of Chinese calligraphy. The original work, however, was already lost in the Tang. Extant pieces are mostly tracing copies produced in the same period. The one by Feng Chengsu has been widely acknowledged to be the best tracing copy of the original work. |
