A club-house operator was fined $8,000 today (June 27) at the Kowloon City Magistrates' Courts for contravening the conditions of the Certificate of Compliance (CoC).
The court heard that officers of the Licensing Authority of Home Affairs Department inspected a club-house at Nathan Road, Tsim Sha Tsui, in March this year. The officers found that the layout of the premises deviated from the registered drawing and that the number of tables and chairs in the club-house was beyond the maximum licensed capacity.
The club-house operator later admitted that extra tables and seats were provided in the premises and that the layout of the clubhouse was altered without written permission.
The operator was in contravention of condition of the CoC and subsequently charged under section 21(1)(a) of the Clubs (Safety of Premises) Ordinance.
A department spokesman said that enforcement action would continue to be taken against illegal club-house operations to ensure the safety of patrons of these establishments.
