********************************************

The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (June 26) obtained two orders in the District Court for payment of outstanding MPF contributions at about $320,000 against two employers. Meanwhile, the MPFA pursued four claims in the Small Claims Tribunal for some $78,000 on behalf of eight employees, who were owed MPF contributions by their employers.

The District Court issued judgments against two employers, Lonnix Garments Holding Limited and COO International Limited trading as Takehachi Japanese Cuisine. The defendants were ordered to pay the MPFA $177,885 and $145,035.21, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable to three and seven employees of the respective defendants.

At the tribunal's hearing, defendants Lam Ka Kit formerly trading as Lucky Boy Restaurant and Kingying Label Weaving Factory Limited, did not dispute the amounts claimed. The Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA $21,250 and $15,519.99, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

The other two defendants, Global Computer Limited and Chiu Kwai Sum trading as Dashing Autos CO, did not appear. In their absence, the Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA $26,433.54 and $16,170, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

The amounts both awarded at the District Court and the tribunal will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The District Court and the tribunal further ordered each of the respective defendants to pay cost of $930 each for the District Court cases and $360, $96, $126 and $150 for the tribunal cases.
