The Land Registry will move to a five-day week from the beginning of July.
With effect from July 1, the office hours of the Land Registry will be extended by 45 minutes daily, opening from 8.30am to 5.45pm from Monday to Friday. Offices will cease to open on Saturday mornings. Internet services will continue to operate seven days a week.
A spokesman for the Land Registry said today (June 25) the department had already put in place various complementary measures to ensure that public services would not be compromised after the implementation of the five-day week.
At the initial stage of implementation, an enquiry desk will be set up to provide commonly used forms and answer enquiries from the public.
For search of land records, people can make use of the IRIS Online Services (http://www.iris.gov.hk) that will continue be available seven days a week to conduct online land searches or obtain copies of land documents via the internet. Drop boxes will also be provided at all the closed offices of the Land Registry.
For general enquiries, people can make use of the 24-hour Customer Service Hotline at 3105 0000. From July 1, 2007, the operators' service hours will be extended by transferring all calls received after office hours to 1823 Citizen's Easy Link. Live operator service will be provided from 9am to 12.30am the next day on weekdays and from 8.30am to 12.30am the next day on Saturday, Sunday and public holidays.
Enquiries can also be sent to the Land Registry through email (csa@landreg.gov.hk) or by fax (2596 0281). General information and specified forms can be obtained or downloaded from the Registry's website (http://www.landreg.gov.hk).
"We will review the operation of the five-day week after implementation and improvements will be made where necessary," the spokesman said.
People can visit the Registry's dedicated webpage on the five-day week for details of the new opening hours of its public services and alternative means of service delivery after service hours.
