***********************************************************

Hong Kong Customs yesterday (June 22) cracked a pirated disks transshipment case, seizing 100,000 pirated disks of music, movies, and overseas TV dramas (including Korean and Japanese), worth about $2.5 million, from a logistics company in Kowloon Bay.

Initial investigations showed that the transshipment pirated disks were suspected of being from the Mainland. They were about to be transshipped overseas, mainly the United States, Canada and Australia, by air express cargoes.

At 11am yesterday, Customs officers raided the logistics company, leading to the seizure of the pirated disks in a warehouse.

Investigations are continuing. No arrest has yet been made.

Under the Copyright Ordinance, it is an offence for a person to import, export or possess, for the purpose of or in the course of business, an infringing copy of a copyright work. The offender is liable to a maximum penalty of $50,000 per infringing copy and four years' imprisonment.

People are advised to call the Customs 24-hour hotline 2545 6182 to report if they come across any piracy activities.
