Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital Influenza A cases

    Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital (PYNEH) spokesperson announced today (June 22) that since June 16, 2007, three patients (aged from 38 to 56) and one staff of a male psychiatric ward have presented with symptoms of influenza like illness. The patients are being treated under isolation and all of them are stable. Viral test results of the patients are positive for Influenza A. The staff concerned has recovered.

     All other patients in the ward concerned are under close surveillance. Admission and visiting to the ward have been suspended. Infection control measures have already been reinforced. Thorough cleansing and disinfection have been carried out in the ward.

     The cases have been reported to the Hospital Authority and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow up.
