Written assessment for recruitment of volunteers for Beijing Olympic and Paralympic Games
************************************************************

The recruitment of volunteers for the Beijing Olympic and Paralympic Games has received an enthusiastic response since its launch on March 28. With the large number of applications, the Home Affairs Bureau will conduct the selection exercise by phases.  The first round of the written assessment has been scheduled for July 28 (Saturday). The bureau has been sending notification emails about the written assessment to the email addresses provided by the applicants.

"We are delighted at the active support by Hong Kong residents to the recruitment drive. We would also like to call on those who are interested to submit applications as soon as possible," a spokesman for the bureau said.

Hong Kong residents who would like to apply to become a volunteer are encouraged to complete their online applications on or before June 30 to be eligible for consideration by the bureau in drawing up the candidate list for the first round of the written assessment on July 28. Those who register from July 1 onwards and those who are not available or not invited for the first round of the written assessment will be considered for the next round of written assessment, which is expected to be held in late 2007 or early 2008.

The recruitment exercise will last until March 2008. Hong Kong residents may apply to the Beijing Organising Committee for the Games of the XXIX Olympiad (BOCOG) to become Volunteers. Only online submission of application forms via BOCOG's website will be accepted.
