In response to media enquiries on the resignation of the Commissioner, Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) Mrs Fanny Law, the Secretary for the Civil Service, Miss Denise Yue, issued the following statement today (June 20):
¡§I am extremely sad to learn that Mrs Fanny Law has tendered her resignation as the Commissioner, ICAC and decided to retire early from the civil service.
¡§Mrs Law is a very dedicated and professional colleague, who always takes the wider public interest to heart. She has rendered more than 30 years of loyal and outstanding service to the Government and to the people of Hong Kong. Over the years, her total commitment and selfless dedication to her work has earned her a great deal of respect amongst those who have worked with her, including her colleagues in the civil service. No doubt, her departure is a great loss to the civil service.
¡§I would like to offer my best wishes to Mrs Law on her retirement. I have known her for many years. She is a person of integrity; she is totally devoted to serving the public; she sets very high standard for herself and those who work with her.
¡§I would like to take this opportunity to emphasise that integrity, honesty, dedication, professionalism and diligence are the well-established core values of the civil service, contributing significantly to the effective governance in Hong Kong. Like Mrs Law, I am confident that my colleagues in the civil service will continue to uphold these important core values and bear in mind the wider public interest in rendering their service to the community.¡¨
