Granting of banking licence to DEPFA BANK plc

The Hong Kong Monetary Authority announced today (June 15) that the Monetary Authority has granted a banking licence to DEPFA BANK plc ("DEPFA") under the Banking Ordinance. The granting of this banking licence took effect on June 14, 2007.
DEPFA is incorporated in Ireland in 2001. According to The Banker, July 2006 issue, DEPFA is the 157th largest bank in the world in terms of tier one capital.
After the granting of a banking licence to DEPFA, the number of licensed banks in Hong Kong has increased to 140.
