The Government today (June 15) gazetted the United Nations Sanctions (Democratic People's Republic of Korea) Regulation and the United Nations Sanctions (Liberia) Regulation 2005 (Amendment) (No. 2) Regulation 2007. Both Regulations come into immediate effect.
"The United Nations Sanctions (Democratic People's Republic of Korea) Regulation (Regulation) implements sanctions against the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) imposed by the United Nations Security Council under Resolution 1718," a Government spokesman said.
The Regulation implements the following sanctions:
- prohibition against the direct or indirect sale, supply, transfer or procurement of certain items, materials, equipment, goods or technology to or from the DPRK;
- prohibition against the transfer of certain training, services, assistance or advice to or from the DPRK;
- prohibition against making available any funds or other financial assets or economic resources to or for the benefit of certain persons or entities; and
- prohibition against entry into or transit through the HKSAR of certain persons.
"The United Nations Sanctions (Liberia) Regulation 2005 (Amendment) (No. 2) Regulation 2007 implements the decision in United Nations Security Council Resolution 1753 in respect of Liberia," the Government spokesman said.
The prohibition against import of rough diamonds from Liberia into the HKSAR is lifted with immediate effect.
