Employers ordered to pay MPF non-payment

    The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (June 14) obtained an order in the District Court for payment of outstanding MPF contributions at about $640,000 against an employer. The MPFA also pursued two claims in the Small Claims Tribunal for some $28,000 on behalf of two employees, who were owed MPF contributions by their employers.

     The District Court today issued a judgment against Tai Tong Lychee Valley Company Limited. The defendant was ordered to pay the MPFA $648,690.44, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable to 21 employees of the defendant.

     At the tribunal's hearing, defendants Capital On Enterprise Limited and Kar Poa Motor Service Centre Company Limited, did not appear. In their absence, the Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA $20,176.96 and $8,441.67, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

     The amounts both awarded at the District Court and the tribunal will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The District Court and the tribunal further ordered each of the respective defendants to pay cost of $930 for the District Court case and $126 and $106 for the tribunal cases.
