Kwai Chung Hospital cases of Streptococcus update

    Regarding two male wards in Kwai Chung Hospital in which there were seven patients infected with Streptococcus pyogenes earlier, the hospital announced the following update today (June 13):

     The test results of four more male patients (aged 33 to 56) in one of the two wards were confirmed positive today for Streptococcus pyogenes. The patients are in stable condition and being treated under isolation.

     The hospital will continue to provide treatment to the patients and closely monitor their condition. All other patients in the wards concerned are under close surveillance. Admission and visiting to the wards will continue to be suspended. Infection control measures have been enhanced while thorough cleansing and disinfection have also been carried out in the wards.

     The cases have been reported to the Hospital Authority and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow up.
