The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (June 13) obtained two orders in the District Court for payment of outstanding MPF contributions at about $300,000 against two employers. The MPFA also pursued six claims in the Small Claims Tribunal for some $91,000 on behalf of 11 employees, who were owed MPF contributions by their employers.
The District Court today issued two judgments against two employers, Great Luck International Trading Limited trading as Jade Chinese Restaurant/Pearl Chinese Restaurant and Kingying Computer Label Ltd. The defendants were ordered to pay the MPFA $183,624.82 and $123,599.95 respectively, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable to 142 and 16 employees of the respective defendants.
At the tribunal's hearing, defendants Ho Wai Fong & Ho Chiu Ming trading as Kin Hing Printing Press, Well Cheer Fashion Company Limited formerly known as Well Sum Holdings Limited and Power United Engineering & Metal Work Co. Limited, did not dispute the amounts claimed. The Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA $42,006.66, $37,862.89 and $6,283.30, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.
The other three defendants, Tai Chung Foods (HK) Limited, Grandwell China Limited and Pridehill Limited, did not appear. In their absence, the Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA the sums of $3,677, $2,136.22 and $362.49, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.
The amounts both awarded at the District Court and the tribunal will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The District Court and the tribunal further ordered each of the respective defendants to pay costs of $930 for the District Court cases and $190, $185, $96, $116, $96 and $70 for the Tribunal cases.
