Sham Shui Po Park Swimming Pool temporarily closed (2)
******************************************************

Regarding the temporary closure of Sham Shui Po Park Swimming Pool today (June 12), a spokesman for the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) added that there are eight pools in Sham Shui Po Park Swimming Pool. A water samples test report received this morning indicated that the water quality of seven pools was satisfactory. Only the water sample collected in the children's pool showed the E. coli count and total bacteria count have exceeded the prescribed limits.

Since all the pools share the filtration system, the department deemed it prudent to close the whole pool complex upon receiving the initial report on the water samples. Superchlorination to the pool water has also been conducted.

Initial inspection shows the filtration systems of the whole pool are working properly.

The department is studying the cause of the unsatisfactory sample. Water samples will be collected for further bacteriological tests after the superchlorination. The Sham Shui Po Park Swimming Pool will be reopened after the water quality is confirmed satisfactory. It will take about 48 hours to obtain the test result of the water samples.

According to the prescribed limits, the total bacteria count should not exceed 200 in one millilitre of pool water while no E. coli should not be present in 100 millilitres of pool water.
