The nomination period for the by-election in the Hung Hom Bay Constituency of the Kowloon City District Council to fill the vacant office of an elected member will run from June 13 to 27.
"If there is more than one validly nominated candidate, a poll will be held on Sunday, July 29," a spokesman for the Registration and Electoral Office said today (June 8).
"A nominee must be a registered geographical constituency elector aged 21 or above who has ordinarily lived in Hong Kong for the three years immediately before his/her nomination," the spokesman said.
"A nomination must be subscribed to by 10 registered electors of the constituency. Each elector is allowed to subscribe to only one nomination."
The nominee must personally hand in the completed nomination form, together with an election deposit of $3,000, to the Returning Officer for the by-election within the nomination period. Apart from general holidays, nominations are accepted from 9am to 5pm, Mondays to Fridays, and from 9am to noon on Saturdays.
The District Officer (Kowloon City) has been appointed as the Returning Officer for the by-election. His office is located at Rooms 1706-1713, One Harbourfront, 18-22 Tak Fung Street, Hung Hom, Kowloon.
Nomination forms are available at the office of the Returning Officer and can be downloaded at www.reo.gov.hk.
Nomination forms are also available at the Registration and Electoral Office at 10/F Harbour Centre, 25 Harbour Road, Wan Chai, and at 10/F Guardian House, 32 Oi Kwan Road, Wan Chai. Both offices will extend their service hours to include Saturday mornings during the nomination period.
The spokesman advised all nominees to submit their nominations as early as possible so they would have time to rectify mistakes before the deadline.
The Guidelines on Election-related Activities in respect of the District Council Election that is in effect and applicable to the by-election can be browsed at www.reo.gov.hk and can be obtained from the Returning Officer. Enquiries can be made to the Election Hotline, 2891 1001.
