Man fined for littering and attacking public officer
****************************************************

A man who assault a public officer was today (June 5) sentenced to two months' imprisonment, suspended for two years, by the Tsuen Wan Magistrates' Courts.

The man, who was found littering the pavement near 38 San Tsuen Street, Tsuen Wan, on February 9, refused to co-operate and attacked a Food and Environmental Hygiene Department officer when the officer took prosecution action.

The man was also fined $1,500 for depositing litter in a public place, and $500 for obstructing a public officer in the execution of his duty.

A department spokesman reminded the public to observe public hygiene regulations.

"Use of force against public officers is not only wrong, but also carries serious legal consequences," the spokesman warned.

"People should co-operate with law enforcement officers in the execution of their duties."
