Applications invited for new niches at Cheung Chau

    Applications are invited from Wednesday (June 6) for 950 niches in the Columbarium of Cheung Chau Crematorium of the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department.

     They are the remaining stock of the 1,026 newly built niches in the Columbarium, which were open for application last month.

     These niches are allocated only to eligible Cheung Chau residents. The deceased must be certified by the Cheung Chau Rural Committee as a local indigenous villager, or a bona fide resident living on Cheung Chau continuously for not less than 10 years, or an offspring of local residents.

     The charge for each standard and large niche are $3,000 and $4,000 respectively, while placing of a memorial plaque is $295.

     Application forms are available at the department offices in Cheung Chau and Sham Shui Po. They can also be obtained through fax or downloaded from the department's website (www.fehd.gov.hk).

     Applicants should submit the completed application forms, together with the required documents, in person or through an authorised agent, to the department office in Cheung Chau during office hours starting from June 6.

     Applications will be processed on a first-come-first-served basis. Successful applicants will be informed of an appointed date for completion of the application procedures with allocation of niches made.¡@
