If you are good at Hip Hop dance, band sound, scratching or rapping and have a way to spread out anti-drug messages in your performance, here is your chance to show off!
The "No Drugs Hip Hop Dance and Music Competition" is jointly organised by the Action Committee Against Narcotics (ACAN), Narcotics Division of Security Bureau and RTHK Teen Power. In this six-month long activity, young people up to age 25 are welcome to join a series of competitions in Hip Hop dance, band sound, scratching and rapping.
All dance and music performances should relate to the theme "No Drugs". Contestants will join the semi-finals in August and November and finalists will compete in the Grand Final and Event Finale at Queen Elizabeth Stadium in December. The panel of judges will comprise renowned professionals in the fields.
The competition, based on the popular Hip Hop culture, will give young people a chance to show their talents and build up their self-confidence. It will also enhance the message that young people can enjoy themselves and find satisfaction in a drug free environment.
In today's (June 3) launching ceremony, officiating guests - the Commissioner for Narcotics, Ms Sally Wong; the Chairman of the ACAN Sub-committee on Preventive Education and Publicity, Ms Scarlett Pong; the Head of Radio 2, RTHK, Mr Clarence Yang; and artiste Denise Ho - revealed the competition slogan. They called on youngsters to lead a healthy lifestyle and do not let drugs manipulate their lives.
They emphasised that abusing psychotropic substances was the same as taking drugs. Abusers would have the same craving for drugs and would suffer permanent damage to the brain and health.
Artiste Jill, renowned DJ Tommy, as well as music bands Zarahn and Fama, gave performances in Hip Hop dance, scratching, band sound and rapping at the ceremony and invited young people to join the competition. The New Being Band, whose members are young rehabilitated drug abusers, also shared their experience through music.
The closing date for joining the Hip Hop dance, scratching and rapping competitions is July 9 while that for the band sound competition is October 29.
