The Government today (June 1) announced the new term of membership of the Advisory Committee on Agriculture and Fisheries. The appointments, with a term of two years starting from June 1, 2007, to May 31, 2009, were made by the Secretary for Health, Welfare and Food.
The committee is a non-statutory body to advise the Government on matters pertaining to the development of local agriculture and fisheries industries and the wholesale marketing of related products.
Speaking on the new term of service, a spokesman for the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department said the total number of unofficial members had increased from 18 to 19 for the new term, with the re-appointment of the chairman and 15 old members, and the appointment of three new members.
"The committee has a good mix of members coming from various sectors. It will be able to give useful and balanced views to the Government," the spokesman added.
