Referral Service for HKU Libraries temporary pass (with photo)
********************************************************

The Hong Kong Central Library will have a referral service from tomorrow (May 30) for registered library readers to apply for a temporary pass to the University of Hong Kong Libraries.

The referral service is a joint resource-sharing project by the University of Hong Kong Libraries (HKUL) and the Hong Kong Public Libraries (HKPL) for the benefit of the community.

It aims to facilitate readers who have a genuine need to carry out in-depth research with access to the rich collections of the HKUL. It is also the first public-academic library collaboration of its kind in Hong Kong.

The Assistant Director of Leisure and Cultural Services (Libraries and Development) Mr Lee Yuk-man and the University Librarian of The University of Hong Kong Dr Anthony Ferguson officiated at the launch ceremony today (May 29).

Applicants for the referral service should be registered members of the HKPL with genuine research needs requiring materials that are not available at the HKPL. Applications can be made at the Reference Library on the 8th or 9th floors of the Hong Kong Central Library.

Applicants have to submit relevant information or proof of research needs together with the application form. A temporary pass referral letter will be issued to eligible applicants within five working days.

Readers with the referral letter can apply at the HKUL for a temporary pass which entitles them to have on-site access to its resources for three consecutive days. The library resources available include books, audio-visual materials and electronic resources, but the materials may not be checked out from the libraries. Should needs arise, readers may directly request extension of the temporary pass at the HKUL.

For enquiries, please call 2921 0222.
