************************************************************

The spokesperson of Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital (PYNEH) made the following announcement today:

Since 7 May 2007, five patients (3 boys and 2 girls, 5 months old to 2 years old ) in a paediatrics and adolescent medicine ward were found to have suspected symptoms of measles. One 2 years old boy has been discharged and the remaining four patients are transferred to Princess Margaret Hospital (PMH) for treatment under isolation. All patients are in a stable condition.

The hospital followed the standard procedure and carried out contact tracing on patients and healthcare workers of the ward concerned. The hospital has recommended post-exposure preventive therapy for patients and is providing their parents with the relevant health information.

PYNEH has stepped up infection control measures in the ward. Admission, discharge and visiting policy to the ward concerned remains normal. The hospital will continue to monitor the situation. The cases have been reported to the Hospital Authority and Centre for Health Protection.
