Five employers ordered to pay MPF non-payment
*********************************************

The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (May 22) obtained an order in the District Court for payment of outstanding MPF contributions at about $380,000 against an employer. The MPFA also pursued four claims in the Small Claims Tribunal for some $120,000 on behalf of 14 employees, who were owed MPF contributions by their employers.

The District Court today issued a judgment against Home Fortune International Enterprises Limited trading as Wong Shing Seafood Hot Pot Restaurant. The defendant was ordered to pay the MPFA $384,337.45, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable to 62 employees.

At the tribunal's hearing, the defendants, Chan Chee Keung formerly trading as Lee Fung Transport Construction & Engineering Co. and Leung Sai Ming trading as Cathy Transport Company, did not dispute the amounts claimed. The Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA $42,381.87 and $27,625.56, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

The other two defendants, Tai Kin Construction Company Limited and Topone Holdings Limited trading as Perfecta Beauty Technology Centre (formerly known as Creating Perfection Beauty Technology Centre), did not appear at today's hearing. In their absence, the Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA $44,469.16 and $7,742.57, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

The amounts both awarded at the District Court and the tribunal will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The District Court and the Tribunal further ordered each of the respective defendants to pay costs of $930 for the District Court case and $220, $170, $140 and $252 for the tribunal cases.
