Customs seizes $1.287 million worth of Herbal Cannabis and arrests two persons (with photos)

    At noon on May 20, Customs officers at the Airport conducted clearance on a South African man arriving from Johannesburg, South Africa, and discovered from his baggage 24 slabs of Herbal Cannabis weighing 24 kilogram in total. Each slab contained about 1 kg of the drug seized and was compressed and vacuum sealed.  The man was arrested and a controlled delivery was conducted. In the evening on the same day, a Nigerian male collecting the dope in Tsim Sha Tsui was further arrested.

     The South African male (49 years old) declared to be a technician and the Nigerian male (21 years old) declared to be unemployed. They were jointly charged with ˇ§Trafficking in a dangerous drugˇ¨ and will appear before Tsuen Wan Magistratesˇ¦ Courts on May 22.  

     Under the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance, drug trafficking is a serious offence and the maximum penalty is life imprisonment and a fine of $5 million.
