Three employers ordered to pay MPF non-payment

    The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (April 17) obtained one order in the District Court for payment of outstanding MPF contributions at about $71,000 against an employer. Meanwhile, the MPFA pursued two claims in the Small Claims Tribunal for some $28,000 on behalf of seven employees, who were owed MPF contributions by their employers.

     The District Court today issued a judgment against Chow Ming Ki trading as Ming Ki Transportation. The defendant was ordered to pay the MPFA $71,312.88, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable to 12 employees of the defendant.

     At the tribunal's hearing, the two defendants - Sign Supplies Centre Limited and Ho Wing Ying and Tam Ka Lin (Translation) trading as Han Lok Yuen Restaurant - did not appear.  In their absence, the Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA $24,225.3 and $4,056.29 respectively, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

     The amounts both awarded at the District Court and the Tribunal will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The District Court and the Tribunal respectively further awarded payments of $930 and $126, $170 as the costs in respect of the claims.
