Forty-five sets of works by 22 potters of the Contemporary Ceramic Society (HK) will go on display from tomorrow (April 3) until April 10 at the "Living with the Locale - Exhibition by Members of the Contemporary Ceramic Society (HK)" at the Exhibition Hall, Hong Kong City Hall.
Some of the exhibits will move to the Exhibition Gallery, Tsuen Wan Town Hall and the Exhibition Areas, Tsuen Wan Plaza for display from April 13 to 23.
The exhibition was opened today (April 2) by the Assistant Director (Heritage and Museums) of Leisure and Cultural Services, Dr Louis Ng Chi-wah, Chairman of the Arts Promotion Committee of the Hong Kong Arts Development Council, Professor Lam Man-kit, and the General Manager (Leasing Department) of Sun Hung Kai Properties, Mr Lam Ka-keung.
It is the final programme of the "Artists in the Neighbourhood Scheme III" organised by the Art Promotion Office and is the largest exhibition of the Contemporary Ceramic Society following its "10th Anniversary Exhibition of the Contemporary Ceramic Society (HK)" in 2002.
The exhibition embraces the recent works by 22 potters of the society. The lively and playful artworks illustrate different stories of the artists in their everyday lives. They fully demonstrate the various styles, sophisticated skills and creativity of the members. People can take this opportunity to appreciate the new look of Hong Kong's contemporary ceramic art.
The Contemporary Ceramic Society (HK) was established in 1992 by seven renowned ceramicists - locally born potters Rosanna Li Wei-han, Wong Ping-kwong and Ma So-mui, Terence Lee Tze-leung and Jakie Leung Koon-ming who had studied ceramics overseas, and Jane Burrell and Katherine Mahoney who had temporarily stayed in Hong Kong. The group came together and enthusiastically launched the society, uniting the energy and talent of local artists to drive the development of pottery in Hong Kong.
After 14 years, its membership has increased to 27, and the society has become the most representative ceramic art organisation in Hong Kong. Despite their different backgrounds and artistic styles, the founders were all dedicated to ceramic creation and the mission of the society. They organised a series of activities and exhibitions on pottery, providing an interactive platform for sharing of creative experiences, while showcasing their creative output to the public and further promoting the development of pottery and ceramics in Hong Kong.
To coincide with the exhibition, a "Clay Fun Carnival" will be held on April 22 at the Tsuen Wan Town Hall. Demonstrations on throwing and pottery workshops will be organised during the event. The Hong Kong City Hall is located at 5 Edinburgh Place, Central. It opens from 10am to 8pm daily. The Tsuen Wan Town Hall is located at 72 Tai Ho Road, Tsuen Wan. It opens from 10am to 8pm daily. The Tsuen Wan Plaza is located at 4 to 30 Tai Pa Street, Tsuen Wan. It opens from 11am to 9pm daily. Admission is free.
