Talented saxophonists from the United Kingdom will play with the local young musicians in "The Enchanting Sound of Sax" concert at 8pm on Sunday (April 8) at the Theatre of the Sheung Wan Civic Centre.
The concert will not only bring audiences the versatile and imaginative saxophone music, but also introduces various instruments of the saxophone family from Soprillo to Contrabass.
The National Saxophone Choir of Great Britain, the Music Office Saxophone Ensemble as well as the Music Office Staff Saxophone Trio, Kevin Ling, Kenny Chiu and Pluto Chu, will perform a number of classics including "Where Spirits and Demons Dance" which reflects a charm amid sleazy Amsterdam; "Sax in the City" which evokes life in the Big Apple; a new version of Ravel's "Bolera", the lively "Bach Goes to Sea"; Mozart's famous piece "Turkish March" and Nigel's "Under the Veil".
The National Saxophone Choir of Great Britain Music Director Nigel Wood, the Northern Saxophone Quartet member Richard Ingham and Music Office instructor Kevin Ling will conduct the concert.
Established in 2002, the National Saxophone Choir of Great Britain is an innovative ensemble of talented saxophonists from all over the UK. They often perform with a magnificent family of nine saxophones and a versatile and imaginative repertoire. The choir made a triumphant appearance at the 2006 World Saxophone Congress in Slovenia and has attracted most of the UK's leading saxophonists as guest conductors.
The Music Office is dedicated to organising music exchange concerts and community performances. It also sends its advanced level orchestras, bands, and choirs on concert tours abroad to foster international cultural exchange and to widen the horizon of local young musicians.
"The Enchanting Sound of Sax" concert, as part of the International Youth Music Exchange Programme series, is presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department.
Tickets priced at $40 are now available at all URBTIX outlets. Half-price tickets are available for senior citizens, people with disabilities, full-time students and Comprehensive Social Security Assistance recipients.
