MPFA managing director re-appointed
***********************************

The Chief Executive has re-appointed Mrs Diana Chan as the Managing Director of the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) for a period of three years starting from July 1 this year to June 30, 2010.

Mrs Chan has been working with the MPFA since 2000, first as an Executive Director, then the Chief Operating Officer (Corporate Affairs), and from July 1, 2003, as the acting managing director.  She was appointed as the authority's managing director on July 1, 2004.

Announcing the re-appointment today (April 2), the Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury, Mr Frederick Ma, said Mrs Chan had performed a key role in building the MPFA into an effective regulator.  "She has successfully sailed the authority through various reviews of the policy and administrative aspects of the Mandatory Provident Fund (MPF) System, such as the implementation of the Disclosure Code, which provides the MPF scheme members with better information on the fees and charges, and performance of MPF funds."

"The MPFA has also successfully promulgated a set of Compliance Standards since 2005 with strengthened supervision of the approved trustees and service providers.

"We are confident that Mrs Chan will continue to steer and lead the MPFA in achieving its goals and objectives in the future," Mr Ma said.

The appointment was made under sections 6A and 6B of the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Ordinance.
