Tsing Sha Control Area Bill to be gazetted
******************************************

The Tsing Sha Control Area Bill will be published in the Gazette on Friday (March 30).

"The Bill is to provide the necessary statutory framework for the management, operation and maintenance of the Tsing Sha Control Area, the section of Route 8 between Tsing Yi and Sha Tin which is being constructed and scheduled to open in phases starting from late 2007/early 2008," a government spokesman said today (March 28).

Route 8 is a strategic road linking Sha Tin and North Lantau. The western section of Route 8, which is the Tsing Ma Control Area linking Tsing Yi and North Lantau, came into operation in 1997.

For effective and efficient traffic control and incident management, the section of Route 8 between Tsing Yi and Sha Tin will form one single control area - the Tsing Sha Control Area. Similar to the Tsing Ma Control Area and other Government tunnels, legislation is required to provide for the management, operation and maintenance of the Tsing Sha Control Area, and the regulation of traffic within it.

The Bill will be introduced into the Legislative Council on April 18.
