The following is issued on behalf of the Commission of Inquiry on Allegations relating to The Hong Kong Institute of Education:
The Commissioner and Chairman of the Commission of Inquiry on Allegations relating to The Hong Kong Institute of Education, Mr Justice Woo, stated today (March 16) on the Commission's decision of his recusal from the Inquiry:
"The decision has been made after the Commission heard the submissions of the parties to the Inquiry this evening. The decision with reasons was announced at the hearing. A copy of the decision is at the Annex.
"I am keenly aware of the community's concern over the allegations relating to The Hong Kong Institute of Education. The decision will remove the remotest doubt on the impartiality of the Inquiry.
"The Commission has conveyed the decision to the Chief Executive so that the Commission can be reconstituted without delay."
Mr Lee Jark-pui's position as Commissioner has not been challenged.
